A $300 Landing

Top  Previous  Next

There have been a number of incidents of "flat-spotting" tyres in the last few months. This is 100% avoidable and is very costly.

How would you like being charged up to $300 for a single landing? Two flat spotted tyres may cost up to $300 to replace. This is generally caused by landing with your feet on the brakes or locking the brakes shortly after landing and is a pure case of carelessness and inattention.

Remember as part of your final check "heels on the floor". In the case shown below, both tyres were flat spotted, one having being replaced only a short time before after a previous case of flat-spotting - 3 tyres for a total value of around $400 in less than 20 hours flying.

The pilot who did this will do well to feel guilty at needlessly costing several hundred dollars in irrecoverable maintenance costs.
